artbomb

"Yarn Bombing" is the action of covering objects in knit or crochet as a form of decoration, public/street art, or graffiti. Usually done on a large scale on objects found outdoors such as lamp posts, trees, cars & bridges, it challenges the public perception of what is considered art, transforms mundane features of our landscape into eye-catching gems, and urges us to stop, notice and think about that which we often pass by and ignore.

The Artbomb Project takes yarn-bombing from the street and onto the gallery wall. Covering frames with knit and crochet using colors evocative of what might otherwise be found in the picture - a sunny floral bouquet, a patriotic portrait, a seaside landscape - takes the frame from the background of our everyday lives and makes it the art itself.
